Green Mountain selects TClarke to expand its London data center
Green Mountain has contracted with TClarke Ltd to deliver the second 7MW phase of expansion at their East London campus. This means that a total of 14 MW of available DC space will be ready for service in second half of 2025. An additional 16 MW will follow soon after, culminating in 30 MW of new capacity to meet the growing demand in East London’s thriving data center market.
As announced a year ago, Green Mountain has initiated a 30MW expansion plan for their LON-East campus in Romford. This contract represents an important milestone in the progress of the project. The construction of the first 7MW capacity is set to be ready in Q3 this year, with the additional 7MW phase to be completed the by end of the year.
The site will be “AI” ready and capable of supporting high density workloads through liquid cooling solutions. In line with the Green Mountain ethos of “setting the green standard” the build is expected to gain a BREEAM status of Excellent.
Simon Blackburn, Managing Director of Green Mountain UK, sees a migration trend in the market from West to East by clients searching for available land and power:
"West London faces congestion, soaring land prices, and delays in new power supply from utility providers. As a result, East London is emerging as a prime location for data center developments. Our campus is ready for a 30 MW expansion, with power and planning permission already secured. High-speed, low-latency connectivity is provided by multiple carriers supporting our existing operational data centers. It’s definitely a case of East is the new West."
He goes on to say that TClarke was chosen based their proven expertise, demonstrated during the first phase of the project:
"The quality of the build is exceptional, and the delivery remains on target and to budget. The construction is challenging given the site is already operational, but with an experienced team in T.Clarke, and their approach of prioritising maintaining live services rather than trying to adapt existing services to fit the build, there has been no impact to the day-to-day operation."
Clive Carr, TClarke Group Director added:
"It continues to be a pleasure working collaboratively with the Green Mountain team to deliver a key sustainable Data Centre facility and we look forward to supporting them with successfully achieving their ongoing goals and challenges."
Located in East London, the site is strategically placed to benefit from proximity to the Docklands and City of London which brings all the benefits of superb connectivity, ease of access, and the ability to expand further locally.
